What a difference a summer can make.

The season premier of Saturday Night Live was last night.  They are coming back from one of their strongest seasons in a long time.  The episode was hosted by Dane Cook with musical guests The Killers.  The changes in the cast were expected, they droped Chris Parnel (who I loved), Finess Mitchell, and Horatio Sanz (who I loved seeing crack in every sketch).  Rachel Dratch is also missing from the cast, but she left the show to appear on “30 Rock” with Tina Fey.
In short, the episode was bad.  Dane Cook brought his usual brand of unfunny hipness to the show.  The sketches were poorly writen and even more poorly executed.  Not to mention NBC was having trouble with their commercial timing so the show kept skiping in and out in the middle of sketches, but that’s not SNLs fault.
The digital short segment that became a fan favorite with last years “Lazy Sunday” has fallen flat on it’s face right in line with the rest of the episode.  The digital shorts to date have always had a reason for being “digital shorts” they have been on location, or music videos or something along those lines, but the segment last night played like any other live sketch…. and badly I might add.

Just to prove that I’m not some crazy and disappointed fanboy, here is a link to a review thread for the episode where hundreds of crazy and disappointed fanboys talk about the episode.

Oh, and on a much more personal and opinionated note, I’m pretty sure that The Killers are terrible.  It’s too bad that they suck, because I wouldn’t mind liking them.  They actually make pretty good sounding music, but their lead singer has a terrible voice and the lyrics are uninteresting and emo-centric.  I havn’t found much new music that I like lately, except for the album “Death By Sexy” by The Eagles of Death Metal.
