I am trying not to have a generic title like “boy, I have been busy”
I got home from Indiana on Sunday and I haven’t had a chance to make a clip video yet or even fully digest the events of the weekend. We ended up having to errors in the results… neither of them were my fault…. well… one of the could have been my fault, but it could have just as easily been the fault of one of the other two judges, or Apple Computers…. but I don’t think we’ll ever know. We had three finalist division, 1A, Open, Indiana State 1A only for residents of Indiana. And Here are the results in full.

I guess I’ll talk a little about the results. Pat Cuartero was on Team High Performance, and whenever one of those guys busts a freestyle they are pretty much guaranteed a win, so when I looked at my clicker after Pat’s open freestyle I thought the competition was over and I could go home, but then Juneau Motzko stepped on stage and it was clear the competition hadn’t begun. Juneau literally tore up the stage, they need a new stage because Juneau owns it now. That wasn’t really literal, but figurative. Abe Ziaimehr (pictured) brought some hot sauce with his freestyle, and if he keeps it up he’s going to start winning more titles (currently, Illinois State Champ). Ian Cole really impressed me, I have seen him at regional contests for years, but now we are seeing a whole new level from him. Conner Scholten also had a great freestyle.
The freestyle that I want to talk about the most was Katelyn Anton who came in 7th. I know what you’re thinking, Katelyn isn’t the name of a chubby teenage boy, and you’re right. Katelyn carries a yo-yo like a boy carries a yo-yo, like John Narum carries a yo-yo. She knows how to control it and she has the confidence to get up on stage and show everyone how she uses the yo-yo. The only problem is that she didn’t do any hard tricks. It was almost entirely somersaults, pinwheels, split bottom mounts and barrel rolls. I would say that the antithesis of Katelyn would be Adrianna here in the Twin Cities. Adrianna does freestyles and hits spirit bomb and other really difficult tricks, but she doesn’t show the confidence that Katelyn does. In fact at the last college I couldn’t even get Adrianna to do a trick for the camera.
I’ll stop preaching about yo-yoing now.
The third episode of the Yoyowiki podcast airs tonight on yoyoradio.net at 8pm central. This episode introduces Wilfred as the other admin on Yo-yowiki and a great addition to the podcast. Speaking of yoyoradio, I was on Yoyos Coast to Coast on Monday and it was really a lot of fun, so you might want to tune into yoyoradio and try and catch a rebroadcast of that but I’ll be sure to let you know when it’s available for direct download.
You might also be interested in looking at the pictures that I took, they are all posted at my photo gallery at Floor42online.com. There are three galleries online for this contest, it’s amazing. And the press was there. Now I’m back talking about Indiana, I’ll stop now. But I’m sure to write more later. Bye.
