YoyoFactory 888 or The new The End
Due to a series of very fortunate circumstance I managed to play with the latest yo-yo from YoyoFactory the 888. See the entire flickr set here. The truth is I love every single thing that yoyofactory does. I love it. I want it to have my babies. The 201 was/is a great beginner yo-yo that is easily/heavily modified, the 401k was/is EPIC! The G5 made me lose my breath and go weak in the knees and soon we will
have the 888. All the stuff that they made in the middle was good too.
Anti-Yo has made some good yo-yos too but they have never had the out-of-the-box perfection that YoyoFactory has accomplished. On the other hand Anti-Yo created a fantastic shape when they made the Eetsit and if I were Anti-Yo I would be pissed about the 888 because they are the exact same shape. And if I were Doctor Popular I would be doubly pissed because it is nearly identical to The End (which was a
modified Eetsit).
With that said my time with the 888 was possibly the happiest time in my life. Now, hours later, I see how much my life is missing. I love The End but with the addition of the hubstacks and that super awesome coating it does it up right several times over.
The YoyoFactory G5 had the flaw of only using a stock sticker response but
they corrected that with the later iterations of the design (the Grind Mutant 2, and whatever else, I can’t keep track of everything) by using recessed flowable silicone which is the love of my life. Even Steve Brown admitted the complete flexibility that the recessed silicone provided in the 888 (see episode 20 of the Yo-Yo Wiki Podcast).
My one complaint is that Yoyofactory seems to be doing short and limited runs of yo-yos. I would love to see them take this yo-yo a little bit more seriously and make it a regular production run.
