Movie Trailer Review, Episode 10

Posted on Sunday, April 8, 2007 in Movie Trailer Reviews

And this very special Grindhouse edition of movie trailers…

Machete

Danny Trejo stars as a hired killer named Machete.  “When you hire someone to kill the bad guy, make sure you’re not the bad guy”.  Robert Rodriguez directs in his typical fashion, totally awesome style.  Don’t miss this one.

Werewolf Women of the SS

During the second World War Hitler had a special team working on creating a super group of Werewolf Women.  Rob Zombie brings his slasher balls out attitude of White Zombie to the big screen.  Werewolf Women of the SS will be an instant cult classic, in the the future.

Don’t

Don’t go up stairs.  Don’t run for you life.  Don’t scream.  Don’t. Don’t. Don’t. Don’t miss this movie.  Edgar Wright brings a stunning sense of comic timing to an Eli Roth style gore fest.

Thanksgiving

Eli Roth has a goal to make every single person in America throw up in a movie theater.  Thanksgiving is his next venture into bloody bloody bloody murder slasher blood film.  Thanksgiving is the most family holiday and thanks to Eli Roth it’s also the scariest.

Movie Trailer Review, Episode 9

Posted on Sunday, April 8, 2007 in Movie Trailer Reviews

I went to see Grindhouse today and I’m pretty sure that Planet Terror is the best zombie movie ever.

Hot Fuzz

One of my favorite horror/comedy movies is Shaun of the Dead by director Edgar Wright.  Well, we are in luck with Hot Fuzz where Wright makes a farce of the super cop action movie.  The movie stars Simon Pegg, who also starred in Shaun, as London’s best police officer who is so good that he makes the rest of the force look bad.  Then the London police decide to relocate him to the part of England with the lowest crime rate, Sandford.  The trailer has lots of great jokes in it but I think they will be even funnier in the context of the movie.  I can’t wait for this one.

Vacancy

This wasn’t really a trailer, it was a weird interview/commercial for the movie with Luke Wilson and Kate Beckinsale talking about their characters.  The movie has Wilson and Beckinsale are a husband and wife that stop for the night at a sleazy roadside motel when they discover a snuff tape that was filmed in the room they were sleeping in.  Then it gets worse.  It’s a neat idea for a movie. But I’ll pass this one up for the next horror movie down the road.

Fracture

The movie Fracture is about a rising district attorney played by Ryan Gosling trying to prosecute a high profile murder case.  The murder suspect is played by Anthony Hopkins who planned the crime down to the smallest detail.  The trailer makes the movie look very interesting as every piece of evidence Gosling tries to use in the trial becomes inadmissible due to something Hopkins had planned while committing the crime.  It looks very cool and I hope to get a chance to see it.

Live Free or Die Hard

What can I say?  BOOOM!  FAST CAR EXPLODING TIME!  This time Justin Long (the mac guy) plays the unlikely sidekick to Bruce Willis’ John McClane.  The trailer is fast and exciting and I’ll be seeing this one on opening day.

1408

John Cusack plays some sort of disenchanted paranormal investigator who hears about room 1408 at some hotel.  The legend of the 1408 boasts that nobody has ever lived for more than one hour inside the walls of the room, so Cusack goes to test the legend.  Samuel Jackson is the hotel manager who warns Cusack about going into the room, but the warning is not heeded and then the terror starts.  The movie is based on a short story by Stephen King, big deal.  And the trailer proudly exclaimed that the movie is directed by Mikael HÃ¥fström which is kinda weird because the only other movie that he has done was the 2005 Clive Owen vehicle Derailed.  I really want to see this one, but I probably won’t get a chance because I can’t get Lindsay out to a horror movie to save my life.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry

Kevin James, great! Right?  Adam Sandler, great! Right?  Adam Sandler and Kevin James in a movie together?  This thing couldn’t be bad!  And they are pretending to be gay! … what? … Damn.  The trailer is kind of long and dry.  There are some jokes, most of which involve Sandler oogling a social worker, played by Jessica Biel, who they are trying to convince of their gayness.  The movie boasts a great cast which also features Steve Buscemi, Dan Akroyd, Ving Rhames and myspace celebrity Tila Tequila.  The plot looks forced but the movie might be good for some laughs so I’ll probably see it.

More on Joost…

Posted on Friday, April 6, 2007 in Josh Rants

I know I have written about Joost before, but I guess I’ll recap. It’s an iptv program that used to be called the Venice Project and it’s by the same people who created Skype and Kazaa. It uses the same NAT traversal and websharing that skype uses to make it easy on the bandwidth. They are getting major content providers to put full content on Joost for marketing purposes, and it’s working. Comedy Central just signed a big deal with them to put up entire episodes, meanwhile they are suing Google for content on Youtube to the tune of 1.6 Billion Dollars (about the same as they grossed in profit last year).

I was happy to see that Joost is currently featuring episodes of Stella for full viewing and they are worth watching. I’m disappointed in the actual performance of Joost on my computer, but I’m willing to bet dollars to other dollars that it’s because of my cheap network hub. Once I move to my new house I’ll be able to get rid of that hub and I’m sure the performance will be top notch.

Things to do on your day off

Posted on Thursday, April 5, 2007 in Josh Rants

I started my day off right with a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch and the latest episodes of The Totally Rad Show and InDigital before going out.  Boyd sent me an IM telling me that it was going to be a good day, I agreed with him.  The first stop of the day was for a cup of my favorite coffee, I decided to go with a lighter tasting roast then I normally get and they recommenced the Brazil Yellow Bourbon.  It was indeed a lighter tasting coffee, and it had the effect of a lighter coffee too, but more on that later.

My next stop was the Wonderful Muffler Man because my car started sounding like a race car.  I’ve always thought muffler businesses were a little funny because half of their business is making cars not sound like race cars, the other half is to make cars sound more like race cars, my purpose was the former of the two.  I’ve gone to the Wonderful Muffler Man before and I would recommenced it to you for all of your muffler needs.  While I was sitting in the waiting room the effects of the light roast caffeine started to hit me and my stomach got all queeze and my hands started to shake, the coffee was taking over and I needed to get some food… but food wouldn’t come anytime soon.  My problem ended up being a bracket for the exhaust system broke causing a pipe to sag and eventually create a hole, total repair was under a hundred dollars.  The owner commented on my Mystery Science Theater 3000 window cling and said that he has been a big fan since way back in the local broadcast days.  He even went to the live shows that they did, that would have been so cool.

My new house is going to need a wireless router so after the car repair I hopped on over to Best Buy.  My plan is to get another wrt54g, the same thing I’m using right now, it’s cheap and reliable… or so I thought.  Best Buy wanted $70 bucks for that!  Can you believe that?  That should be a $40-$50 device these days.

I’ve thought about going with the Linksys Draft N router and try and get those 600mb speeds but at a $140 price point I think I’ll save my money.

The CompUSA in Roseville is closing, so I dropped in there to see if I could find some bargains on networking stuff, no deal.  But I did find a couple of the USB headsets that I use, the Logitech 350, so I bought those and I’m going to send one to Doc and the other to Seth for the Yo-Yo Wiki Podcast.

I left CompUSA and walked down the strip mall hoping to find a food place before I fell over with death.  There was a Vietnamese place that looked interesting, but it wasn’t a buffet or anything and I didn’t want something that would cost too much.  Then Chris Myers from MoYo called me up to talk about Missouri States.  He told me all about the venue, The City Museum, which sounds very cool.  And I told him that I would host his websites, so look for moyo.us and moyostates.com very soon.  Chris is really planning the shit out of this event and I think the outcome is going to be fantastic.  As I talked to Chris I drove across the city looking for good food to eat and I ended up at Dino’s Gyros, have you ever had a meal that was just exactly perfect and tasted like food made for a god?  That’s how that Gyro effected me today.

When I got home this afternoon I boxed up the headsets and watched Tenacious D and The Pick of Destiny, I freaking love that movie.  Then about twenty minutes ago I started writing this blog, my wife called me to tell me to put in a pizza and now I am done writing this blog.  How meta was that?
