DiggNation says to its fans “SCREW YOU!”
Because everyone else is giving their two cents, I will too. The website DiggDown.net has acted as a mirror for DiggNation since almost the beginning, serving up content when the Rev3 servers would crash. Last week Rev3 served DiggDown.net with a Cease and Desist order regarding the use of the trademarked word “Digg” and the redistribution of their copy written content (DiggNation). But here is the rub; Revision3 releases their content with a Creative Commons license (“Some right reserved” from the Creative Commons website - “With a Creative Commons license, you keep your copyright but allow people to copy and distribute your work provided they give you credit”) which means that Striker is legally able to redistribute that content so long as he doesn’t charge for it. The domain diggdown.net violated the trademark for Digg and Digg has to defend that. The subscription (not “Donation”) model for DiggNation is old and should be retired I watch more shows on Rev3 than I do on Twit but I’m a lot more inclined to give money to Twit because they just ask for donations and don’t restrict your enjoyment of it. At upwards of 10k to sponsor an episode of DiggNation plus cash from their merch at Jinx it seems unlikely that they need $5 a month from anyone. And the beer thing… people were sending Kevin and Alex beer because they wanted to share a regional beer with them that they felt was special and the notion that Kevin and Alex would rather just take donations so they can buy Red Stripe is repugnant.
I love DiggNation, I watch it every week but when I pulled up DiggDown on Sunday morning I was very disappointed with Revision3. I am hoping that they can resolve this and DiggDown.net will be able to continue acting as a mirror for DiggNation.
Nuff Said.
