Movie Trailer Review, Episode 19

Went and saw The Darjeeling Limited, can you believe I had not seen that yet?  I am the worst fan boy ever.  It was great, not better than The Royal Tennenbaums, but still very very good.  Onward with the trailers.

The Savages

As much as I always like seeing Philip Seymour Hoffman in movies the trailer for The Savages looked very dull.  It seems to be about siblings that are dealing with having to put their father into a retirement home.  The film is written and directed by Tamara Jenkins who also made the film The Slums of Beverly Hills.  It could be a good film… in fact it probably will be but the trailer didn’t convince me.

Shine a Light

Martin Scorsese documentary about the Rolling Stones.  How rad is that?  It’s very rad, that’s how rad.  Lindsay didn’t think it looked interesting, but I think that’s just because Keith Richards and Mick Jagger are butt ugly today.  I thought the trailer was fun and full of life and I hope the movie is as good as the trailer made it out to be.

Reservation Road

This trailer was a nightmare, pure and simple.  They have actors and they tell and entire story in the one minute trailer it was too much information for a trailer.  I guess it’s about family’s who tragically lose children.  The film was directed and co-written by Terry George (Hotel Rwanda) and stars Joaquin Phoenix and Jennifer Connelly.  It’s difficult to say what the critics will say about this film, but this trailer needed some serious direction and significantly less uplifting music.

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly

The “true” story of a person who is paralyzed over his entire body except his left eye and how the world looks to him through that one eye.  It’s French.  It has French people in the film and it’s directed all French-like.  The trailer was fine enough but I’m going to make a prediction that this film will win an Oscar for best foreign language film.
