Movie Trailer Review, Episode 21

Cloverfield.  It’s just a wow.  Go see it.  Or don’t go see it because you don’t deserve it.  A bunch of new trailers.

Me & You, Us, Forever

I don’t know what to make of this movie.  The trailer was just the worst thing to watch and the titles were all jaggy because apparently they didn’t expect it to be shown on DLP.  It’s about this guy who gets a divorce and seeks out his High School sweetheart.

Hellboy II; The Golden Army

Directed by Guillermo Del Toro who also did the first Hellboy and then went off and made a name for himself as a fantastic director and so they had him back to direct the sequel.   This is a strange trailer and I was totally with it up until it revealed itself as a trailer for Hellboy II, and then it completely fell apart for me.  The character design and CG on Hellboy proper looks awesome, but based on this trailer I don’t have a lot of faith in the rest of the movie.

Rambo

I mean, it’s Rambo, how could it be bad?  Rocky Balboa was great, right?  The trailer is pretty tight.

Jumper

I’ve been hearing buzz about this movie, but this is the first time I have seen anything about it.  It’s about a kid who can teleport though space.  Jumper is directed by Doug Liman who has a production sheet a mile long and he directed the first Bourne movie as well as Go, Swingers, Heist… so he’s about 50% in my book.  The trailer had some plot and some explosions but it explicitly didn’t make me excited about the movie or make me want to see it at all.

Step Up 2 The Streets

Now, I didn’t see the first Step Up and when someone in the audience said "They made a sequel?" I didn’t exactly know that there was a first Step Up.  The movie looks like a cross between Save The Last Dance and Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo.  The trailer featured a lot of crazy cool dancing and that might actually make it worth watching… but I doubt it.

Iron Man

Robert Downey Jr. is Tony Stark; Iron Man.  This movie is directed by Jon Favreau whom I love even when he is making something terrible.  The trailer was cool and funny and I think the movie is going to be great.

The Ruins

This reminds me a lot of the film Touristas with a supernatural aspect.  A group of sexy coeds are on spring break in Mexico when the decide to go on an archeological dig where they unleash and unknown evil.  Whoops!  That sounds like it might be about as big of a mistake as this film is unto itself!

Star Trek

J.J. Abrams… creator of Lost and producer/creative force behind Cloverfield re-imagines Star Trek; The Motion Picture.  I just don’t think life can get any better than this.

Phew, that was a lot of movie trailers.

The Best Sci-Fi

I was just reading this Entertainment Weekly list of the Sci-Fi 25.  FireFly comes in at #15, and the top ten list is filled with The Thing (Better than Terminator and Terminator 2?), Aliens, Star Trek:TNG, E.T., Brazil, Star Trek II; The Wrath of Khan, The X-Files, Blade Runner and Battlestar Gallatica at number 2.  When I was reading this list I sat at number 2 and pondered…. is there any Sci-Fi that has affected me more than Blade Runner or The X-Files?  Do you think Battlestar Gallatica deserves a second place spot (I’m talking to you, my friend who watches the show).  And the most puzzling question to me is what could be number one.  Well, The Matrix of course.  The Matrix is great, don’t get me wrong, but for me it is not better than Brazil, Aliens, Terminator, and most of all Blade Runner.  What do you think?

Blogging is sooo 2007

I know that I have not blogged in awhile, and that’s because blogging is sooo 2007.  But you know what?  I’m bringing it back for 2008.  I willing to be that one lone blogger looking like a fool before the fad catches on and then everyone will remember Schalicto as the blogger who brought it back.

I got Rock Band for Christmas from Lindsay’s parents.  How freaking cool is that?  It’s almost like they want me to fail at college or something.  Even though I have only played Guitar Hero very briefly I still found the Easy Guitar Solo Tour to be a waste of my time.  The day after we got the game we had all of our friends over to play it and people started complaining that the down-strum didn’t work right… soon after that the up-strum stopped functioning correctly as well.  It turns out that we got a guitar affected by a known production issue and EA sent us a new guitar 2nd day air.  The new guitar is rocking hard and I’m almost all the way though the Medium Guitar Solo Tour.

The writers strike continues with no progress.  Leno, Letterman, Stewart and Colbert are back on the air.  Leno had a monolog and the WGA is suing him for it because he is a guild member and was paid to write the monolog… or something.

I had my first night of class last night.  Monday night is “Success Strategies” and Wednesday night is “Intro to HTML”.  This Monday night class is a joke; do you want to know what we did last night?  We made motivational posters.  However, something very weird happened last night, I was walking through the halls on break I heard the voice of a teacher… and I was thinking “holy crap, could it be?” A few minutes later that class went on break and I peaked my head in and sure enough it was Corey Quick, my Comp 1 and 2 teacher from Century (Comp 2 being a completely embarrassing failure for me).

That brings us to today.  Work hasn’t been the best, we got a new manager and a new district manager and both of them expect a lot more out of us than their previous counterparts.  I think I’ll be looking to make a move soon.
