2007 best picture opinions
I won’t be discussing Atonement because I don’t do period pieces.
Juno
You should already know my opinion on this film, it does not deserve to win.
Michael Clayton
This film was pure crap glorified by the presents of George Clooney and Steven Soderberg. The nomination alone proves that the academy is blinded by these two and so this could be a wildcard in the Best Picture category.
No Country for Old Men
I think this is one of the only two true competitors for the Best Picture nomination. The mood and the pacing are very similar to There Will Be Blood but the tone tends to be a little more up beat and there are some legitimate scenes of excitement and suspense. Of the five nominations this is my pick for best picture of 2007.
There Will Be Blood
This film is a brutal and chilling story of an oil tycoon in the early 1900’s. It’s a great film and P.T. Anderson proves once again that he is a great director and I am confident it will win an Oscar, I’m just not so sure it will be for Best Picture. It’s not my favorite flick, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Academy gave this film the Best Picture Oscar.

Whoa, you didn’t like Juno either? I thought I was the only one.
I’m hoping NCFOM receives best pic.
Juno, was great fun, I loved it, but you are right, it is not Oscar-worthy. It is a feel-good flick; great for some laughs, but not at the same level as the others you have here.
There Will Be Blood, on the other hand, is amazing. By far my favorite for a statue or two. Best Actor, probably, possibly Best Picture. The movie is simply riveting.
So you didn’t see “Atonement”. I can’t rave about any of these movies. I have only seen the trailers. I agree that your picks seem quite good. NCFOM and TWBB both are interesting stories, but I would encourage you to take a good look at “Atonement”. I felt that the story was quite different, and being a period piece just makes it that much better.
Dad.
