Movie Trailer Review, Episode 22
How great is Iron Man? Just about the greatest movie in the whole world.
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
Written and Directed by the same guys who did the last one. I gotta admit, I love this trailer, however I am convinced that the movie is going to fail to impress.
The Love Guru
This movie appears to be a total crap. Don’t get me wrong, I laughed a bunch during this well edited trailer, however the character portrayed by Mike Meyers is entirely too Austin Powers and I can’t help but feel that this movie is going to Suck (with the capitol “S”).
Don’t Mess with the Zohan
This film was written by Adam Sandler and Robert Smigle… how weird is that? The trailer presents a pretty intriguing plot and a likable character. I actually think this movie could be very good. The trailer sure is top shelf.
The Dark Knight
The Joker is perfectly terrifying. Bat Motorcycle looks cool.
Indiana Jones; Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Every trailer for this film is better than the last and every trailer I see makes me want to avoid all other trailers for the film so I can go into the film without any preconceived notions. Ah, rats to that, I can’t wait for this film it’s going to be awesome.

Movie Trailer Review, Episode 21
Cloverfield. It’s just a wow. Go see it. Or don’t go see it because you don’t deserve it. A bunch of new trailers.
I don’t know what to make of this movie. The trailer was just the worst thing to watch and the titles were all jaggy because apparently they didn’t expect it to be shown on DLP. It’s about this guy who gets a divorce and seeks out his High School sweetheart.
Directed by Guillermo Del Toro who also did the first Hellboy and then went off and made a name for himself as a fantastic director and so they had him back to direct the sequel. This is a strange trailer and I was totally with it up until it revealed itself as a trailer for Hellboy II, and then it completely fell apart for me. The character design and CG on Hellboy proper looks awesome, but based on this trailer I don’t have a lot of faith in the rest of the movie.
I mean, it’s Rambo, how could it be bad? Rocky Balboa was great, right? The trailer is pretty tight.
I’ve been hearing buzz about this movie, but this is the first time I have seen anything about it. It’s about a kid who can teleport though space. Jumper is directed by Doug Liman who has a production sheet a mile long and he directed the first Bourne movie as well as Go, Swingers, Heist… so he’s about 50% in my book. The trailer had some plot and some explosions but it explicitly didn’t make me excited about the movie or make me want to see it at all.
Now, I didn’t see the first Step Up and when someone in the audience said "They made a sequel?" I didn’t exactly know that there was a first Step Up. The movie looks like a cross between Save The Last Dance and Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo. The trailer featured a lot of crazy cool dancing and that might actually make it worth watching… but I doubt it.
Robert Downey Jr. is Tony Stark; Iron Man. This movie is directed by Jon Favreau whom I love even when he is making something terrible. The trailer was cool and funny and I think the movie is going to be great.
This reminds me a lot of the film Touristas with a supernatural aspect. A group of sexy coeds are on spring break in Mexico when the decide to go on an archeological dig where they unleash and unknown evil. Whoops! That sounds like it might be about as big of a mistake as this film is unto itself!
J.J. Abrams… creator of Lost and producer/creative force behind Cloverfield re-imagines Star Trek; The Motion Picture. I just don’t think life can get any better than this.

Phew, that was a lot of movie trailers.

Movie Trailer Review, Episode 20
We went to see No Country For Old Men last night. The Coen’s prove once again that they are master film makers despite their last two inexcusable pieces of trash. And I saw three new trailers!
The Bucket List
Unlike the Coen Brothers, Rob Reiner rarely makes a film that redeems himself and I think The Bucket List will be another Alex & Emma and not a When Harry Met Sally. The film stars Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman as dying old men who set forth to accomplish goals before they die. The trailer is full of uplifting music and Jack Nicholson mugging for the camera. Mark my words, this was a terrible trailer and the movie will be just as bad.
Pride and Glory
New York cop movie with Ed Norton and Collin Farrell. It looks like a wanna-be The Departed. It is directed by Gavin O’Conner who has done nothing of interest. The trailer literally sat the audience down and explained every single plot point until we were all dizzy and nauseous… I think some people were convulsing by the end of it. I like Ed Norton as an actor but there is this scene in the trailer where he delivers a line “It cost me everything!” with such a wussy winy tone that it leads me to believe that overall direction on the film is weak and nobody is going to show up on opening weekend to see it.
There Will Be Blood
There is something about Daniel Day Lewis that is just magnetic. The very start of this trailer had me riveted and then the words “Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson” showed on the screen and I was sold. The film is about a cut-throat oil tycoon (Lewis) at the turn-of-the-century. Paul Thomas Anderson is one of America’s great film auteurs (along with the Coens) and I think it will be great to see him make a western with Daniel Day Lewis. The trailer for There Will Be Blood is bold, sharp and very gripping and I have all confidence that the film will be so as well.

Movie Trailer Review, Episode 19
Went and saw The Darjeeling Limited, can you believe I had not seen that yet? I am the worst fan boy ever. It was great, not better than The Royal Tennenbaums, but still very very good. Onward with the trailers.
The Savages
As much as I always like seeing Philip Seymour Hoffman in movies the trailer for The Savages looked very dull. It seems to be about siblings that are dealing with having to put their father into a retirement home. The film is written and directed by Tamara Jenkins who also made the film The Slums of Beverly Hills. It could be a good film… in fact it probably will be but the trailer didn’t convince me.
Shine a Light
Martin Scorsese documentary about the Rolling Stones. How rad is that? It’s very rad, that’s how rad. Lindsay didn’t think it looked interesting, but I think that’s just because Keith Richards and Mick Jagger are butt ugly today. I thought the trailer was fun and full of life and I hope the movie is as good as the trailer made it out to be.
Reservation Road
This trailer was a nightmare, pure and simple. They have actors and they tell and entire story in the one minute trailer it was too much information for a trailer. I guess it’s about family’s who tragically lose children. The film was directed and co-written by Terry George (Hotel Rwanda) and stars Joaquin Phoenix and Jennifer Connelly. It’s difficult to say what the critics will say about this film, but this trailer needed some serious direction and significantly less uplifting music.
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
The “true” story of a person who is paralyzed over his entire body except his left eye and how the world looks to him through that one eye. It’s French. It has French people in the film and it’s directed all French-like. The trailer was fine enough but I’m going to make a prediction that this film will win an Oscar for best foreign language film.

Movie Trailer Review, Episode 18
I went and saw Southland Tales, don’t worry, you didn’t miss anything. Do.not.see.Southland.Tales. Aaron will want a rebuttal, and I welcome that however Aaron has never been more wrong about anything. Ever. Do not believe Aaron if he says the movie was good. Anyway, onward with the trailers.
Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
This is the highly anticipated feature from Tim Burton. The trailer has lots of blacks gothic style and Johnny Depp. It’s based on a 19th century legend of a man who is banished from the city only to return as a barber… with vengeance! Oh, did I mention it’s a musical? Cuz it totally is! The trailer for the film doesn’t really highlight that until about half way though…. and then it get’s pretty awkward. All in all I thought the trailer was pretty bad, mostly because the musical aspect seemed really out of place. Based on this trailer I probably will not see this film.
Persepolis
This is an animated film based on a graphic novel of the same name. It is about a young girl in Iran in the late ’70s early ’80s during the Islamic revolution. I have read the graphic novel and it’s fantastic, I fully expect the movie to be as good/better. The trailer for the film is great too, it get’s the plot across with a lot of interesting topics and some humor. Did I mention that the film is in Persian? Cuz it totally is! And it’s also won a bunch of award blah blah blah, I can’t wait to see this.
Blade Runner
Yeah, that’s right, Blade Runner, wanna fight about it? The revolutionary 1982 Ridley Scott film is being re-released as a directors cut with so many minutes of new footage and a shiney new boxed set.
Juno
I would have paid $8.50 just to see this trailer. The film is about a young girl who get’s knocked up and then puts the kid up for adoption. It was written and directed by Jason Reitman who directed the 2005 sleeper Thank You for Smoking. My two favorite things about the film are Michael Cera as the guy that knocks the girl up and Jason Bateman as the prospective adoptive father. J.K. Simmons and Rainn Wilson also have supporting rolls in the film. This is one of the best trailers I have seen this year and I can’t wait to see more.

Movie Trailer Review, Episode 17
We went and saw Dan In Real Life the other night. I did enjoy the movie, it was a lot like the film The Family Stone except it was actually good. I saw two new trailers.
Mad Money
Diane Keaton, Queen Latifah and Katie Holmes rob the federal reserve. Directed by Callie Khouri who wrote the screenplay for Divine Secret of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, and Thelma & Louise and she appears to be one of only two female directors in Hollywood. It looks like it could be a pretty good movie, but I probably won’t see it.
Vantage Point
Based on the trailer I’m not exactly sure what the plot of this movie is. It seems like the United States government fakes a presidential assassination for some reason except that eight people are recording the event and the government is worried that if the eight people got together they could put the clues together. A bunch of people are in the movie which is directed by some guy and written by some other guy. With the exception of Forest Whitaker this film doesn’t seem to be worth my time.
